«This phone is no longer linked to this account.» (device_revoked)

  • 1 min read
  • SaaS · Self-hosted · Android

Symptom

When opening a request, the phone shows «This phone is no longer linked to this account.» The API answers 403 device_revoked. In the console, a phone can show as removed with the reason «no longer trusted by Google».

Cause

  • You or your administrator removed this phone from the account (for example after reporting it lost).
  • The manufacturer revoked trust in the phone's keys. Each approval checks the manufacturer's revocation list; once the phone appears on it, it stops approving.
  • The account was suspended or deleted.

A removed phone never approves again, even if recovered.

Fix

  1. On the phone, remove the account: open the account's details and use «Remove this account from this phone».
  2. Sign in to the console with your passkey or another phone.
  3. Link the phone again, if it is still trustworthy; see Link your phone.

If the reason was the manufacturer's loss of trust, do not use that phone again: update its system or use another.

When to escalate

If you did not remove the phone and nobody in your organization did, tell your security team: the audit log shows who removed it and when.
